Austin Bars: Brentwood Tavern

Burgers at the Brentwood Tavern

We went to the Brentwood Tavern tonight for a little happy hour. It’s up there on Burnet, next to the farmer’s market by Elsie’s (where Academy used to be).

My one-time-visit-review can be summed up in 4 characters: Yuh!

There were some flaws — only appetizers served outside, WTF, dude?! — but over-all, it was a great, relaxing, easy going, hangin’ out, Austin-y place.

We can only hope they’ll make it. In the meantime, we’ll probably be back soon, and for lunch. The Salisbury steak was fantastic.

Sadly, they have no Wild Turkey, but the Marky-Mark is a good stand-in.

Update: the Simmon’s posted several pictures of the Tavern.

  1. Hey Cote!
I was looking for info on The Brentwood Tavern and ran across your blog. We just started a new blog for our Band – A Band Named Sue. We are going to be playing there this weekend Saturday the 5th 6:30 – 9:30. I put a link to your blog about the Tavern in my post maybe we will see you there!

  2. ok..so brentwood tavern is looking pretty good these days. they seem to always have a crowd outside in the evenings. i live within walking distance of the place and am digging having it in the neighbor. the band “neighbor’s dog” is playing on saturday, september 3. i’ve heard them play and they are pretty incredible. the guitar is like something i haven’t heard in a really long time. i you see their name in the chronicle occasionally. come back to brentwood tavern, hang out, play in the sand, eat good food and hear great music.

  3. Just ate at the Brentwood Tavern recently. Was not even close to impressed. The beer selection may have been decent yet it was not more impressive then most bars trying to hussle unique beers around Austin. The comedic thing in Austin is that even low end pizzarias offer high end micro brews. The food left alot be desired. The appetizers were served in cold dishes so the cheese in the nacho dish was hard and paste-like. The chicken fried steak and mashed potatos dish was so cold that the food was absent of any warmth half way through the meal. Ambience was decent but with poor food and chilly climate there are much better places to eat in Austin.

  4. Dear Cote,

So here I was, sitting at work trying to google the Brentwood Tavern, for Hightower will be speaking there this Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 5:00pm for a rally that will be going on to protest the suggested Wal-Mart at Northcross Mall (www.rg4n.org).. and what do my weary eyes see, but a little bit of drunkandretired.com. This is the second time have googled something and had your blog appear on the first page of the results. I truly think, although you are neither drunk nor retired, that you have a gift.

Godspeed and a triple “yuh” to you!

    Karen

  5. Yuh! to you as well ;)
