Photos or No Photos?

Some have told me that my recent spate of posting photos to the blog is annoying. They’re in my flickr feed, so why have them here. In truth, I was excited to find out a way to post from my cellphone — through the photo posting in flickr — so I’ve been using that.

Now, I had been posting all the photos from my phone because I only had one email address setup. But, I know have two email addresses in my phone so I can post just to flickr or flickr and the blog.

Anyhow, the question is: should I have photos posted to the blog here, or just let them be in flickr?

  1. Isn’t this something we should be voting on with Jyte or Twitter?

I used to not care but now I’m in favor of photes in their own Flickr feed, since I’m getting triple posts (this feed, my flickr contacts + the raw flickr feed).

  2. I have a Flickr account and a home-grown sort of photo blog that I can send pictures to, from my phone.

Generally, I use Flickr for picture sets from events, or high quality shots. Spur of the moment pictures, bar snapshots, funny labels in supermarkets usually go to my photo blog.

Of course, if Flickr ‘is’ your photoblog, you have an interesting situation. Maybe you can only post pictures with a certain tag on your blog, and have the rest be posted only to Flickr.

  3. It’s your blog so do what you want.

That said, I wish the google reader would realize when content has been duplicated across feeds and allow me to assign a default feed context | priority. So that, for example, I could tell it that Cote photos should show up in the D&R feed but not Flickr if they happen to exist in both.

  4. First, I think it is your blog, so do whatever you like.

But I really want to second mhatt. I have the same problem as he and Matt. E.g. I receive a lot of duplicates via the Artima Developer Buzz, because posts on the Buzz are posted to DZone which again posts to the Buzz.

I think that the software we use to read should be able to detect duplicates (e. g. by following prominent links in the case of DZone posts) and allow setting priorities as mhatt has suggested.

  5. Thanks for all the input.

    Yeah…duplicates are annoying.

I’ll just keep photos to a minim. Hopefully not sending all my photos to the blog will work out better as well.
