In this episode after the usual corny chit-chat, Charles and Coté were lucky to have Pat Hurley as a guest to talk about using Ruby for retail software. It’s good stuff, and thanks to Pat for joining us!
And DrunkAndRetired.com super-fan KirinDave gives us a surprise at the end.
Apologies for how late this episode is: I’ve been at SXSW, see above picture.
(This episode “edited” by Coté.)

re: The Singularity
I don’t know where you are in the house at the moment, but run and find your mother and tell her why you must listen to Bruce Sterling’s critique of the singularity at longnow.org
http://www.longnow.org/projects/seminars/
Fascinating, scary and hilarious. Charles should listen to this.
Kurzweil, and recently even Vinge have had their turn at longnow -but for the talkin, Sterling is yr man.
However…
Neither Von Neumann, Vinge, Kurzweil or Sterling propose anything as scary as the singularity emerging from a can in the person of Butt-head.
In Space Oddyssey 2095 the computer takes over and flys the ship straight into, like, uranus.
[further blather deleted here, because whoever might read this has better things to do -like going to longnow.org and listening to Sterling. ]

I liked his talk at SXSWi 2007 too. I feel compelled to go find all his recorded talk now and figure out how to imitate his style.
I enjoy the snark role. It’s like a young curmudgeon.
