TGIF!

In this episode, Charles and Coté talk about the life of an independent programmer and using Flex for your UI layer.

(This episode edited by Coté Sorry it’s late, I got distracted by drinks, see above.)

  1. Great episode, but what TV show were you guys talking about?

  2. Good stuff. Really enjoying the conversations. Some highlights that stuck in my brain:

“There’s an infinite amount of code to write, I’m going home and I’ll see you in the morning…”

“When going independent, there’s no one providing structure for you but yourself, it’s only up to you to sink or swim…”

“You kind have to start liking making money… The money is like stability and this business is a foundation from which to build your life upon…”

  3. Great conversation on what it’s really like to have your own business. I think one key is having partners – having multiple people, either on your board or as partners, as vendors, customers, other business people – people you work with regularly who can help your business. No one can do it alone.

But maybe you should have used a better MesaQuote, something directly relevant to the trade-offs inherent in the software business:

“You see you’ve got all these different things 110V, 225V, money,
expenses and I’ve found that the best way to circumvent these
social norms is to do a half-ass job.”
